The relevant Chinese government ministry is currently working on drawing up the qualification criteria for steel exporters in the context of the new export license system which took effect on May 20, China Iron and Steel Association vice chairman Luo Bingsheng has stated.

Luo Bingsheng added that the criteria for steel exporters will take into account export quantity, credit worhiness, comprehensive strength, energy saving, environmental protection, and some other aspects. So far the detailed qualification criteria have not been issued.

In accordance with the Ministry of Commerce's current stipulations concerning export licenses, all registered, qualified and approved enterprises may apply for a steel export license. The export license will be issued within three days of the date of application, and shall be effective for three months from the date of issue. Three months later, exporters shall have to apply for the license once again.

The official statistics show that more than 11,600 enterprises were involved in steel exports last year.
