By the end of October this year, China’s Jiangsu Province aims to have completed the transformation to ultra-low emissions for the overall production process in local iron and steel enterprises, while those enterprises which fail to complete the transformation within the time limit will need to cease production and continue their transformation work, as announced by the Jiangsu provincial government.
In the first half of the year, PM 2.5 concentration in Jiangsu Province was 18 mg and 11 mg per cubic meter higher than in Zhejiang Province and Shanghai respectively. Meanwhile, ozone pollution in Jiangsu in the given period was at very high levels, reaching 181 mg per cubic meter, up 4.6 percent year on year and constituting the worst levels in the Yangtze river delta area, according to the monitored data.
However, according to the Jiangsu provincial authorities, even if the GDP of a city in the province reaches the top of the list, if its air quality is not up to standard, it will not be evaluated as ”good”. Accordingly, cities in Jiangsu Province have been implementing strict air pollution controls.
