Spanish base metals output index down nine percent in Jan-Aug

In August this year, Spain’s industrial production index decreased by 3.1 percent year on year, while the seasonally adjusted index declined by 3.2 percent. According to the revised figures provided by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), in July the respective index values went down by 2.7 percent and 5.5 percent, year on year.
 
In January-August this year, the Spanish industrial production index decreased by 5.5 percent compared to the same period of 2011. In particular, durable consumer goods declined by 10.9 percent, non-durable consumer goods by 2.8 percent, capital goods by 11 percent and intermediate goods by 6.9 percent, on year-on-year basis. The energy production index recorded the only positive year-on-year variation in January-August, up one percent.
 
The index for base metals production in Spain was down 3.7 percent in August and decreased by nine percent in January-August, both year on year. Meanwhile, the index for metal products fabrication (except machinery and equipment) went down by 12.2 percent in August and by 16.2 percent in the first eight months of 2012, also year on year.
