South Korean scrap imports up 11 percent in first eight months of 2018

According to South Korean trade statistics, the country imported 4.33 million mt of ferrous scrap in the first eight months of 2018, up nearly 11 percent from approximately 3.9 million mt in the same period in 2017. During the period, South Korea imported 2.86 million mt (66 percent) from Japan, 0.64 million mt (15 percent) from Russia, 0.42 million mt (10 percent) from the US, and 0.41 million mt (9 percent) from other destinations.

In August 2018, South Korea imported 0.56 million mt, up almost 24 percent from 0.45 million mt in the same month last year.
