South Africa may introduce policy on scrap metal exports

South African government reportedly plans to introduce a new policy on scrap metal exports in an effort to increase availability of subject raw material in domestic market. The fact that domestic industries complained about the higher scrap prices prompted the government to take certain measures to relive the market. In South Africa, currently exporters should get permit to export scrap, however government considers more strict measures to limit exports. One option the government suggests is introduction of export duty for scrap metal. The proposal is yet to be discussed.
