German plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it will supply a complete steelworks with a connected continuous billet caster and two connected light-section mills for Tulachermet Steel, a part of Russia-based pig iron and coking coal producer KOKS Group.

The €180 million order includes the construction of a converter-based steel and rolling mill complex in the immediate vicinity of the Tulachermet iron works located south of Moscow.  The rolling mills, which will produce light sections, bar steel and wire rod, will be designed for an annual capacity of 1.5 million mt in the first phase, with the possibility of a later increase to 2 million mt. The continuous caster will be able to produce square sections in sizes from 150 х 150 to 180 х 180 mm.

According to SMS Group, the major part of the production will be supplied to Moscow and to other regions in Central Russia, where there is a demand for high-quality steel products, above all from the construction industry and from mechanical engineering and automotive companies. The steelworks and rolling mill complex will go into operation in 2016.
