German plantmaker SMS group has announced that it will supply a single-strand caster for ultra-wide and thick slabs for the US-based steel producer Nucor Corporation. The new casting machine, which will be one of the largest casters in the world, will have an annual capacity of 1.45 million mt and will be a key part of Nucor’s new plate mill in Brandenburg, US.
The new caster will be able to produce slabs with 200-305 mm thickness and up to 3,150 mm width, while slab lengths will vary from 2,642 mm to 15,240 mm.
