Germany's SMS Demag signed a contract with Indian steel producer Alloy Steels Plant (ASP) to supply an AOD (automatic overdrive) converter with de-dusting unit, a ferroalloy supply system and various miscellaneous equipment. With an electric arc furnace plus AOD converter, ASP will be able to produce high quality stainless steel and special grades of steel products. The designed annual production is 200'000 tons. The AOD converter will be operational in mid-2006. ASP is part of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) group.
