Siemens upgrades Wuhan Iron & Steel’s rod mill

Giant Austrian-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Mining and Metals Technologies GmbH & Co. has announced the completion of the upgrading of a two-strand rod mill for Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron & Steel.

As a result of the upgrading, Wuhan Iron & Steel's mill, designed to produce low carbon and medium carbon steel, has increased its production capacity from 700,000 mt to 850,000 mt of steel per year. Together with the increased production, the product mix has changed from 85 percent low and medium carbon steel to 70 percent high carbon steel grades.
