Siemens to supply equipment to Egypt's Beshay Steel

Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has announced that it has received a major order from Egyptian steelmaker Beshay Steel for the engineering and supply of a complete melt shop which will be installed at Sadat City, Egypt.

The new steel mill called Egyptian Sponge Iron & Steel Company will include an EAF, ladle furnace and a billet caster. The annual production capacity will be approximately 1.3 million mt of steel , which will be rolled to bars and sections.

Commenting on the order, Siemens said the first heat is expected in March 2009 and that the value of the order for the company is a two-digit million euro figure.

The new mill in question will be Beshay Steel's third steel mill in Sadat City.
