Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has announced the receipt of an order from South Korean steelmaker Pohang Iron and Steel Company Ltd (POSCO) to equip a stainless steel processing line. Siemens will supply special equipment, drives and the automation system for a cold-strip annealing, pickling and finishing line for POSCO'S Pohang plant.
The project worth a two-digit million euro figure will start production in the middle of 2009.
POSCO has two integrated facilities, in Pohang and Gwangyang. POSCO is planning to expand its production capacities by building a cold strip annealing, pickling and finishing line. The new line is designed to have an annual processing capacity of 400,000 mt of austenitic and ferritic steel grades. The new processing line will produce cold strip with widths of 600 to 1,350 mm and thicknesses of 0.3 to 3 mm. Also, the new line will allow processing speeds of up to 150 meters per minute.
Siemens will be responsible for all designing and engineering of special equipment and of the skin-pass mill, the tension leveler and the side-trim shears. All this equipment will be manufactured at the Montbrison facility in France.
In addition, Siemens will also supply 270 speed-controlled AC drives, the automation and operator control and visualization system under the current order. Siemens will also be responsible for supervision of the installation work and for commissioning.
