Shevardnadze wants to continue talks with Turkish steel firm

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze is requesting privatization talks be continued between the Turkish group Çukurova-Eregli on the acquisition of Rustavi steel works, sources report. The Turkish group reportedly backed out of negotiations earlier this year, since they felt the government of Georgia was not serious about the acquisition. Shevardnadze is particularly interested in the Turkish group since they are the only bidders who have experience in operating steel mills.
