Shandong Province to cut coal capacity to 100 million mt by 2020

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China’s Shandong Province has announced that it plans to reduce the province’s annual coal output capacity to 100 million mt by 2020 and to 60 million mt by 2030.

In 2015, Shandong Province produced 144 million mt of coal, while its apparent coal consumption amounted to nearly 400 million mt, with its consumption ranking first among provinces in China.

To date in the current year, Shandong Province has shut down 66 coal mines and eliminated 19.60 million mt of annual coal capacity.
