Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel (Severstal), has announced that in the first eight months of this year the shipments of plate produced at its mill 5000 amounted to 491,000 mt, corresponding to the volume for the whole year of 2009.
Severstal Cherepovets delivers its plates for Severstal's own pipe production in Kolpino, as well as for OMK's subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works and TMK's Volzhsky Pipe Plant.
Despite the high capacity utilization rate, Severstal continues to develop new product varieties at its mill 5000. Thus, in early 2010 it developed the production technology for strip of high strength category steels X-90-X-100, which have no analogues in Russia.
Also in the first half of the current year, Severstal developed the production of four new types of strips for Volzhsky Pipe Plant and for its own pipe production facility, in particular, strips for pipelines of 11 mm thickness, and also X-70 strips of 24.6 mm thickness.
