The Russian steel producer Severstal has announced that in March 2010 it will commence the deliveries of large diameter (LD) pipes for Transneft's second phase of the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO-2) oil pipeline, which will carry oil to Russia's Far East and to the Asia-Pacific markets.
According to Dmitry Goroshkov, sales director at Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, in 2010-2011 over 130,000 mt of LD pipes are to be supplied for the construction of the ESPO-2 oil pipeline system.
Moreover, Severstal has also signed an additional contract with Transneft to supply over 35,000 mt of LD pipes for the construction of the Purpe-Samotlor pipeline system, which is to link the western and eastern segments of Russia's pipeline system. Severstal is already supplying LD pipes for Transneft's construction of the Baltic Pipeline System (BPS-2) oil pipeline.
