Severstal to reconstruct blast-furnace No.5

Russian Severstal started the four-month long reconstruction work on blast-furnace No.5. The reconstruction is aimed at restoration of production capacity at the level of 3.8 million tons of pig iron a year. Mr.Stepanov, Severstal's Technical Director and Head Engineer commented that after the current reconstruction of blast-furnace No.5, it would not need any repairing for 10 years. The investments put in the current reconstruction are estimated as $185 million. During the period of reconstruction of blast-furnace No.5, the enterprise needs in pig iron would be satisfied by other four blast-furnaces.
