The Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that its St. Petersburg region-based steel service center subsidiary Severstal SMC Kolpino has started operations at its new line for welding beams, which had successfully passed all tests.

Accordingly, the first production lot, mostly consisting of I-beams, has been delivered to the construction companies in the St. Petersburg region.

"The production of high value added products, which we have started to output at our new line for welding beams, will allow us to use the facility's production capacities in correspondence with our production and marketing plans, thus minimizing the consequences of the unfavorable marketing situation," Severstal Kolpino's general director Yuri Bilichenko stated.

The automated welding line, manufactured by Finland-based company PME-Group, is designed for manufacturing T-beams, I-beams and other sections.
