The Russian steelmaker Severstal is investing $1.2 billion in the modernization of its North American Dearborn plant, with the key projects to be completed in 2009.
The capex projects, aimed at capacity expansion, include the rebuilding of the "B" blast furnace, construction of a new pickle line-tandem mill facility and also the construction of a new automotive exposed HDG line. While the first two projects will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2009, the last one will see its implementation started in the fourth quarter of 2009.
The implementation of the abovementioned projects will increase the plant's production, reduce costs, improve quality and product mix.
