Severstal Cherepovets completes reconstruction of purification system

Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, has announced that it is completing the third and last stage of the reconstruction program for the gas purification system of its shaft furnace No. 2 and ladle furnace No. 2. The program in question targets the reduction of dust emissions into the atmosphere by almost five times and the increase of equipment safety during working operations. The final stage of the reconstruction has been timed to coincide with the overhaul at the plant’s shaft furnace No. 2, continuous slab caster No. 1, ladle furnace No. 2, and at its vacuum degasser No. 130. The total cost of the reconstruction program, which started in autumn 2007, amounts to Ruble 130 million (approx. $3.9 million).
