Several steelmakers, including Ternium, Baosteel, Villacero, Gerdau and Mittal Steel, are reportedly considering buying a stake in Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA), a media report from El Economista said.

AHMSA has denied it’s looking for a possible buyer, and media reports thus far did not make it clear the nature of potential transactions. El Economista said AHMSA could sell an undisclosed stake for about $350 million.

The media report said five steel groups, Ternium, Baosteel, Villacero, Gerdau and Mittal Steel, “are having negotiations … with AHMSA’s directive (management).”

The media report also said AHMSA’s plans to re-list at local stock exchange, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV), might now get more distant.
