Scrap imports in India reach 4.24 million mt in first 11 months of 2017

According to India’s customs data, in the January to November 2017 period, ferrous scrap imports totaled 4.24 million mt. On December 6, SteelOrbis reported that according to India’s customs data ferrous scrap imports totaled 3.60 million mt in the first 9 months of 2017, the difference of 0.64 million mt of scrap was imported in October and November.

The top five major sources of import scrap to India for the 11-month period in 2017 were the US (0.69 million mt), UAE (0.60 million mt), UK (0.46 million mt), South Africa (0.24 million mt), and Australia (0.21 million mt). Other sources included Hong Kong (0.18 million mt), Singapore (0.17 million mt), Malaysia, (0.15 million mt), Tanzania (0.13 million mt), China (0.13 million mt), and others (1.28 million mt).
