Phoenix, Arizona-based Schuff Steel Co. is actively pursuing plans to construct a new wind tower manufacturing plant in North Dakota.

The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Schuff International Inc., hopes to begin construction of the 200,000 square-foot facility sometime within the year. The plant will be capable of producing hundreds of steel towers annually and will employ approximately 250-300 people once at full capacity.

The project will receive a federal clean energy manufacturing tax credit as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and only awaits the resolution of project financing and other issues before breaking ground.
