SAIL’s captive iron ore mines record 5% output growth in 2019

Indian state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited recorded iron ore production of 43.67 million mt in 2019, up five percent from the previous year, a company statement said on Thursday, January 9.

SAIL has eight captive iron ore mines located in eastern India which feed its five integrated steel mills located across the country that together produce 16.3 million mt of crude steel per year.

The company said that iron ore production from its mines in Jharkhand and Odisha in eastern Indian totaled 21.99 million mt and 21.68 million mt in 2019, respectively recording growths of 5.25 percent and 4.62 percent year on year, constituting its highest-ever growth in production.
