Indian state-run steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced the finalization of its target to produce around 12 million mt of saleable steel during FY 2009-10.

The higher target has been set despite the current economic slowdown. The broad details of SAIL's production plan were formalized on Tuesday, March 31, through the memorandum of understanding for FY 2009-10 with India's ministry of steel.

The company will also produce over 3 million mt of value-added steel products during the year to meet the growing requirements of high-end user segments. It has also set a sales turnover target of over Rupees 400 billion ($7.9 billion) for FY 2009-10.
