SAIL records high capacity utilization in fiscal 2003-2004
According to reports from the industry, plants of Indian mill Steel Authority of
India Ltd. (
SAIL) operated at 102% capacity during the first five months of current fiscal year in its history ever and gained a record
production level at 4.3 million tonnes of saleable steel in the first half. This figure accounts for a 8% increase compared to the same period previous year. On top of that, during April-August 2003 period,
SAIL recorded the highest ever exports with 510'000 tonnes which reflects a 126% upsurge.
It is stated that improvement in all areas helped the company to keep its success, following record profits in the last two consecutive quarters. One of these improvements can be defined as cost cutting measures that have helped
SAIL to achieve an almost stable variable cost despite rising input prices.
