SAIL produces over 5 million mt of value-added steel products in FY 2012-13

Indian state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced that it closed the financial year 2012-13 on a good note, with the company registering a four percent growth in the production of value-added steel compared to the previous financial year. SAIL produced over 5 million mt of value added steel products designed for specific end-use in the financial year 2012-13.

In the given year, energy consumption at SAIL plants improved by three percent, while the company's blast furnace productivity increased by five percent, both year on year.

SAIL also stated that significant progress was also made in modernization and expansion projects in the financial year 2012-13. At its Rourkela plant, the new sinter plant and new coke oven battery No. 6 commenced production. At its IISCO steel plant, a new coke oven battery No. 11 and sinter plant came into operation, while hot tests for the new wire rod mill also started. With more capacities lined up in different plants and units of SAIL, the company is looking forward to a higher growth trajectory in the financial year 2013-14.
