S. African steelmakers’ prices up 2.5 percent in September compared to August

According to the latest data released by Statistics South Africa, in September this year the country's producer price index (PPI) for the basic iron and steel industry increased by 2.5 percent compared to August and was up 12.9 percent compared to September 2017.

Meanwhile, in August this year the PPI for exported basic iron and steel in South Africa rose by 6.5 percent compared to July and was up by 16.6 percent compared to the same month of 2017, while the index for exported products of iron and steel increased by 4.8 percent month on month and was up 10.8 percent year on year. In addition, in South Africa the PPI for imported basic metals in August this year decreased by 3.9 percent month on month and was up by 26.7 percent year on year.
