Finland-based steelmaker Ruukki has announced that it will initiate employer-employee negotiations to improve the efficiency of its steel business, estimating that 250 job cuts are needed.

The negotiations will affect most of Ruukki's production organization in Finland, which means a total of around 3,500 employees. The Raahe Works and Hämeenlinna Works are the largest units to be affected by these negotiations. In addition, employer-employee negotiations concerning lay-offs of the entire personnel will be initiated at the Kankaanpää and Pulkkila sites in Finland.

According to Ruukki's statement, the negotiations seek savings totaling around €10 million in annual costs and it is estimated that the cost cuts will be achieved in full during the second and third quarters of 2013.
