Russia's Uralmash-Izhora Group (OMZ) has announced that it has commissioned its new steelmaking complex with a capacity of 250,000 mt of special steels per year at the Izhora industrial site.

The new steelmaking complex, implemented within the framework of OMZ's investment program, financed by Gazprombank, will allow OMZ to manufacture forging ingots of up to 600 mt weight, to produce forging shells up to 5.5 meters in diameter for nuclear reactors and oil and gas refining equipment, and to manufacture large-sized two- and three-layered clad sheets and plates of up to 450 mm gauge.

OMZ's new steelmaking complex includes a new 120 metric ton electric arc furnace (EAF-120), a gas purifying plant, a lime roasting section, an automated system for metering alloying materials, and a plant for drying scrap and ferroalloys. In addition to the construction of its new EAF-120 furnace, OMZ has also modernized the Izhora industrial site's production and technological facilities.

The project is in line with OMZ's strategy for the creation of Russia's most progressive machine building complex based on its own modern steel facilities for the manufacture of long cycle equipment for the nuclear power industry, oil and gas industry, mining sector, energy industry, and shipbuilding and other industries.
