Russia to keep inflation at 8.5%

Russia's Economic Development and Trade Minister insisted that the country will be able to meet its inflation rate target of 8.5% in 2005. The Minister indicated that growth in money supply and high tariffs for housing and public services and transport would help achieve the goal. The minister, however, acknowledged that the government was unable to meet the target last year. In 2004, inflation hit 11.7%.
