According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in the first eleven months of 2008 Russia exported 24.840 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - down 0.75 percent, 4.839 million metric tons of pig iron - down 6.66 percent, 683,700 metric tons of ferroalloys - down four percent, 14.439 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 8.3 percent, 6.441 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 12.4 percent, 20.615 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - down ten percent, and 2.856 million metric tons of coke and semi-coke - down 3.5 percent, all compared to the first eleven months of 2007.
During the period in question, Russia decreased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 19.3 percent and its steel pipe imports by 34.86 percent year on year, to 4.486 million metric tons and 901,000 metric tons respectively.
