According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in the first four months of 2007 Russia exported 7.9 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) - up 1.5 percent, 1.7 million metric tons of pig iron - down 13 percent, 269,700 metric tons of ferroalloys - up 39 percent, 5.3 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products - up 10 percent, 2.79 million metric tons of flat rolled products - down 10 percent, 7.9 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate - up 12 percent, and 936,100 metric tons of coke and semi-coke - up 87 percent, all compared to the first four months of 2006.
During the period in question, Russia increased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 62 percent and its steel pipe imports by 40 percent year on year, to 1.749 million metric tons and 477,300 metric tons respectively.
