Russia issues Jan 2007 import-export data

According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in the first month of 2007 Russia exported 2.23 million metric tons of ferrous metals (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) – down 5.6 percent, 403,000 metric tons of pig iron – down 13 percent, 35,500 metric tons of ferroalloys – down 27 percent, 1.2 million metric tons of semi-finished steel products – up 2.5 percent, 653,000 metric tons of flat rolled products – down 18 percent, 2.2 million metric tons of iron ore and concentrate – up 22 percent, and 188,100 metric tons of coke and semi-coke – up 61 percent, all compared to the first month of 2006. During the period in question, Russia increased its ferrous metal imports (excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap) by 47 percent and its steel pipe imports by 44 percent year on year to 334,900 metric tons and 97,800 million metric tons respectively.
