Russia has notified the World Trade Organization that it proposes to suspend concessions or other obligations under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (which promotes international trade by reducing or eliminating trade barriers such as tariffs or quotas) that are substantially equivalent to the amount of trade affected by the measures of the European Union.
The proposed suspension may come into effect either after the first three years that the safeguard measures of the European Union are in effect, or after the date of the decision of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body that the safeguard measures of the European Union are inconsistent with the relevant provisions of the WTO Agreement, whichever is earlier.
The Russian government said that the suspension of concessions and other obligations will continue to apply until the safeguard measures of the European Union are lifted.
