Rizhao Steel to build two blast furnaces and two converters in 2020

The Industry and Information Technology Department of China’s Shandong Province has announced that Shandong Province-based steelmaker Rizhao Steel Holding Group plans to begin construction of two 3,000 m³ blast furnaces and two 300 mt converters in 2020, which are expected to be put into operation in 2022. This will add 5 million mt of iron-making capacity and 6 million mt of steelmaking capacity.

At the same time, Shandong Province-based Guangfu Group and Chuanyang Group will close 3.5 million mt of iron-making capacity and 3.96 million mt of steelmaking capacity, and 2.19 million mt of iron-making capacity and 2.7 million mt of steelmaking capacity, respectively, and transfer 5 million mt of iron-making capacity and 6 million mt of steel-making capacity to Rizhao Steel Holding Group, with the remaining 689,000 mt of iron-making capacity and 659,000 mt of steelmaking capacity to be used in other capacity replacements in the future.
