Rig count rises in US and Canada

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending May 31, the US rig count was up nine from the previous week to 1,771, following a seven-rig decrease a week ago. The rig count was also down 209 rigs from the same week a year ago when active drilling rigs totaled 1,980. Oil rigs were up by eight to 1,410 while the gas rig count was unchanged for the second consecutive week at 354.
 
In Canada, the rig count increased by 14 to 145, following an eight-rig increase a week ago but still down 11 from the same week a year ago.
