According to local news reports, ArcelorMittal is currently in talks with potential buyers for the company’s Georgetown, South Carolina wire rod mill.

Company spokeswoman Mary Beth Holdford told media that “ArcelorMittal continues to actively market its former wire rod facility in Georgetown, S.C. to potential buyers and is in ongoing discussions with several interested parties.”

The United Steel Workers Local 7898 added that the company is talking with two potential buyers “with an eye or restarting” the facility for wire rod production again. The mill was shuttered in 2015.

However, media reports said the city of Georgetown is also considering alternative uses for the former mill, including transforming it into mixed-use development.
