The data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) on March 4, based on the construction permits issued by local authorities in Turkey, show that in 2009 the new floor area, the number of new buildings and the value of new buildings in the country decreased by 4.7 percent, 4.7 percent and 9.5 percent respectively, while the number of new dwelling units rose by 1.3 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, in 2009, based on construction permits issued, the number of new residential buildings increased by 4.1 percent year on year to 66,450, up from 63,851 in 2008. Also in the period in question, the floor area of new residential buildings rose by 13.3 percent year on year, reaching 58,839,589 m2.
