Federal prosecutors in Brazil may refile a BRL 155 billion ($36.9 billion) lawsuit against domestic pellet producer Samarco, a 50/50 joint venture between Vale and BHP Billiton.

A Reuters media report said prosecutors may resume the case if Samarco fails to meet its obligations, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.

Samarco agreed to certain terms, including repairing the damages following the Mariana disaster, and hiring a consulting company to aid those affected by the deadly dam collapse.

The media report said the deadline for Samarco to hire such a consulting company ended in November.
