POSCO to expand tailor welded blanks capacity

South Korean steel producer POSCO is planning to increase its tailor welded blanks (TWB) capacity to 8 million ton per annum by 2008 in order to meet rising demand for the product. The company is currently testing a TWB facility at its Gwangyang Steelworks, which will be operational in January. With this facility, POSCO will produce 3.6 million tons per annum. The company currently produces 1.7 million tons. TWB products are mostly sold to Korean automotive industry.
