Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from South Korea-based POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd (E&C) for the installation of a new steel mill adjacent to POSCO's existing steelmaking facilities in the Korean city of Pohang.

The deal includes Siemens' engineering and the supply of key components, equipment and systems for two LD (BOF) converters, a twin-station RH degassing plant and two ladle-treatment stations.

The new steel mill will be designed to have an annual production capacity of 4.65 million mt of carbon, alloyed and special steel grades, 1.3 million mt of which will be cast in an ultra-thick two-strand slab caster which Siemens VAI is currently supplying.

The new plant is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2010.
