Europe's largest
coking coal producer
Poland-based Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa SA (JSW) has announced that in 2013 it sold 14.35 million mt of coal, constituting its largest annual volume of coal sales in over 10 years.
During last year, the coal miner produced 13.62 million of tons of coal, exceeding its
production target by 100,000 mt. On the other hand, the company's coke sales in the given year amounted to 4 million mt, 200,000 mt higher than the sales volume in the previous year.
According to JSW's statement, in 2013 the company struggled with falling prices of
coking coal and coke in the world. It also felt the effects of the economic slowdown in
Poland and the crisis in the steel sector in the EU. JSW focused on maintaining an adequate level of
production, cost control and sales of the group's products, to minimize the adverse impact of lower prices on the final outcome of the company.
