Morris Iron & Steel, based in Philadelphia, is expanding its scrap yard operations to waterfront acreage that will allow barge delivery through the Delaware River to reach the Atlantic Ocean. The firm is a major East coast dealer in both ferrous and non-ferrous scrap.

Plans began in fourth quarter 2016 and the land purchase has been finalized. Barge services are expected to begin in July 2017.

According to the president of Morris Iron & Steel, transportation of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap via river barges will allow the firm to continue servicing customers who are moving to the Southern states where ground transportation is not practical for the firm.
