The Peruvian mining industry generated 189,962 new job positions in 2017, according to data released by the country’s mines and energy ministry (Minem). The new jobs represent a 10.5 percent increase when compared to the job positions generated in 2016, Minem said.
Government data indicated mining companies generated about 65,778 jobs in 2017, while contract companies generated another 124,184. The Arequipa region was responsible for 15 percent of the total job positions, or 28,480 jobs.
