The Peruvian government commenced phase 2 of a reopening plan that allows smaller mining companies to resume activities following Covid-19 shutdowns.
As of June 6, all small and medium-sized mining firms, including iron ore companies, can resume the exploration, beneficiation, storage and transportation of mining-related products, the government said.
Larger mining companies, with a 5,000 mt/day production capacity, resumed activities on May 9, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
The country’s ministry of mines and energy (Minem) estimated mining companies resuming activities at phases 1 and 2 will account for 9 percent the nation’s GDP.
