St. Louis, Missouri-based Peabody Energy has announced that it is increasing seaborne coal volumes at its Wilpinjong and Millennium mines in Australia, following expansion works.

Peabody stated that the expansions of the Wilpinjong and Millennium mines increased the annual thermal and metallurgical coal supplies by a combined 3 to 5 million mt. Following the Macarthur Coal acquisition and Australian mine expansions, Peabody expects the share of earnings from Australia to increase.

The Wilpinjong thermal coal mine in New South Wales will increase annual production by 2 to 3 million mt beginning in 2012 from the 9.2 million mt in 2010 after completing a preparation plant and coal handling facility expansion.

The Millennium mine in Queensland is targeted to increase pulverized coal injection (PCI) coal and semi-hard coal production by 1 to 2 million mt per year when production reaches full capacity in 2013.
