Output of 53 major shipbuilding firms in China down 17.8% in Jan-May

In the January-May period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to 116.08 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 17.8 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, new ship orders of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises amounted to 19.19 million dwt, increasing by 119 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship orders on the books of the shipbuilding enterprises in question totaled 86.75 million dwt, up 7.6 percent year on year.

In the January-May period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises in China totaled 15.12 million dwt, down 18.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, new ship export orders of the shipbuilding enterprises in the period in question amounted to 17.85 million dwt, increasing by 127 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship export orders on the books of the 53 major shipbuilding enterprises totaled 78.08 million dwt, up 4.1 percent year on year.
