Finland-based stainless steelmaker Outokumpu has announced that it will supply 350 mt of quarto plates for a fusion experiment project called JT-60SA in Japan.

The stainless steel quarto plates with low cobalt content will be used in the cylindrical section of the cryostat, which is the hull surrounding the main components of the Tokamak reactor. The cylindrical section will be produced in Spain for Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA).

In April this year, Outokumpu also supplied 355 mt of the same material to Gijon, Spain-based IDESA for the fabrication of the base of the same cryostat for the Centre for Energy-Related, Environmental and Technological Research in Spain.
