The Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced that in January 2010 its Novgorod-based pipe producer Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) increased its pipe output by 50 percent year on year to 143,976 mt, with its large diameter pipe production amounting to 97,528 mt - up about 51 percent compared to January 2009.
In addition, during the first month of the current year, Vyksa also increased its output of railway wheels by 46 percent year on year to 27,244 mt.
"The beginning of the year was marked by a few determining events. In our railway wheels business, we have identified long-term plans for our technological development together with our main partner Russian Railways. In our pipe segment, we became one of the suppliers of large diameter pipes for the construction of the second pipeline of the Nord Stream project," Vyksa executive director Vladimir Kochetkov commented.
