OMK’s foundry and rolling facility to start shredded scrap production in late 2012

Russian steel and pipe producer OMK has announced that by the end of 2012 its foundry and rolling facility plans to commission a new shredded scrap production plant with a capacity of one million mt per year.

The equipment will be supplied by Germany-based mechanical engineering company Metso Lindemann GmbH, following a tender which ended in November. It is planned that construction work preparations will begin next spring.

"The use of shredded scrap will allow the foundry and rolling facility to produce a higher quality steel. The commissioning of the (shredder) unit will ensure technological safety of steelmaking production regardless of scrap market fluctuations," reads OMK's statement.
